Video Pitch- Makerspaces and the Impact on Education

Students and people in general tend to fall into one of the three categories; kinesthetic, visual, and auditory, as learners and they may switch depending on the situation. It is important to understand that every learner, learns a different way.  Being able to understand the learning style of each student is helpful, so we can better assist them. 50% of students tend to fall into the kinesthetic category. A kinesthetic learner connects with their feelings, and moving helps them to learn. If they are able to take things apart, see how they work, and then put it back together, they have a higher rate of understanding the things they are working with. This follows hand and hand with makerspaces. Makerspaces is a place with tools and resources where students can go and create projects.

My plan is to create a video that persuades to schools the benefits of makerspaces and how it is best for schools to try to get into it. I think that with seeing students actually work and do hands on projects, teachers/administration are able to watch the benefits. With statistics appearing throughout from schools who have already tried, I am going to ask that my outsource video send footage of them trying new things and/or their opinion on makerspaces.

Hey Rebecca, you wanted a video of someone building someone. Visit the wikispace and see my comment. It's on the same page where you posted your request. Is it okay ? After your confirmation, I will create the video.

Great idea, Rebecca.  There is a Makerspace at Ford.  Mrs. Schmuhl is available to share the library's makerspace with you and discuss her experiences with it.  I have some video footage that she captured that might be of use to you, too.  I will share it with you on Google.  Best of luck with your video!

Anna, thank you for sharing your ideas. I plan to major in Elementary Education in college too. I am excited to get this video going! Thank you!

Hi Rebecca!
I love your idea! As an Elementary Education Major knowing my students learning styles is very important to me! I would be sure to include some great graphics as examples of the learning styles. Great job!

I think you have a very good topic to discuss in your video. Its a pretty big problem that many don' realize right away; that people learn in different ways and at different paces. I think this topic in combination with makerspaces is a perfect fit for one another and I think they could be greatly used to improve the understanding of this issue. I am excited to see what you have to offer. I think video footage of makerspaces at work is key for this, so I am also excited to see your examples.
