My learning of FGCP was very flat. I had the chance to learn about a variety of topics and viewpoints from many people. These people were not just limited to my home state; but stretched throughout the entire. In my group, we even communicated with people from Australia. This project gave me the opportunity to collaborate ideas with many different groups and subsets of people, and this idea intrigued me beyond belief. Even though we were all thousands of miles away we found a way to communicate and work together to finish this assignment.
Something that was new and exciting about the project was the fact that I got to interact with all different groups of people. What was exciting is how we all came together on one platform to learn about each others' working habits and working together. We all took a topic as generic as maker spaces and transformed it into something more than that. We all worked together to learn, put our ideas together, and collaborate in a way I have never done before. That was really exciting.
Although this was a very interesting project, interaction and communication is a major problem in this. Since most kids will not go home and check their FGCP's; collaborating and communicating are very scarce and not frequent. This is something I'd work on improving on in the future.
In High School, I believe there are two main things a student should experience. One of these is education, and the other is fun socialization. These are important too many because it fulfills a student's priorities, and keeps a person happy and confident. You can help an education by supplying students with adequate materials and help that may be needed to succeed in high school. In our expansive world, the opportunities grow brighter each year a new batch of freshmen walk through the doors. The sky is the limit, and beyond.
My learning on the FCGP was very flat. I had the chance to work with people from all over the world and that allowed me to see all different people's point of view. It was exciting and new for me to talk to new people from different parts of the world rather than just the people I talk to everyday at school. It gave me a chance to be exposed to different ideas and see how they compare to mine. It also gave me a new look on seeing how with the help of people you can accomplish more. At my middle school teachers worked with the chrome books to help us get the most out of the internet and get the most information possible the easiest and most efficient way. On the internet in general you are able to look at other people's work and see their ideas and help form your own, but you can also do this even more so in the FCGP.
What did not work at times was that it was hard to communicate with people sometimes of the different times and different schools. Because it is in FCGP people do not check it regularly so it can be hard sometimes to get in contact with someone. If I asked someone a question it would take at times a couple days for people to see it. If there was face to face contact, which I know can be difficult considering that everyone lives in a different place in the world.
All students in high school should experience how it is to work in both dependent and independent scenarios. With the group project I had to work independently to research my topic and then work with my team to add to their information. And now with the outsource request you are depending on someone to make a short video for you to add to your independent video. In a school scenario we can make this happen by doing more group work and working with partners when it is needed and also to go and do independent work to prepare you for work. Another thing that high schoolers should be exposed to is listening to all different ideas and concepts. They can do this by working with other people to do studies together and find research and work to make a better project in the end.
I am already experiencing the future of learning. In middle school, every student was assigned their own chromebook, or computer, to carry around and take all note on, as well as do all of their classwork and homework on through google classroom. I think this is really innovative and incorporates amazing technology, but also takes away from the critical experiences we must get in school such as writing. When I was in elementary school, I learned how to write in script, but today, the students aren’t taught that because it is predicted that it will not be used in the future, and is rarely even used in the present. However, I do understand that it is essential for a society to evolve their technology because that is how we grow as a whole, and other schools should definitely be encouraged to participate in global collaboration. This can be done in many ways such as showing the leaders through videos or written works how much the education is improved in schools using innovative learning techniques. It moves the school community to become more connected, collaborative, and produce more co-created outcomes.
My learning in the Flat Connections Global Project was not as “flat” as I thought it would be. I really enjoyed watching the intro videos of people from around the world. I always watched the Dell commercial about artificial intelligence but did not know what it meant, but now I know so much about it. Everything is coming together pretty well so far, and the only thing that didn’t work was the late upload of the keynote, which is fixed now.
I think the future of learning is very bright, with all the inventions and innovations already in progress of being made, and the intelligent minds in school now that are going to do great things, there will be ways of earning that we can’t even imagine now.
High school is a big part of a person’s life and should be an enlightening experience for everyone around the globe. They should learn a lot about every aspect of life, socially and educationally, as well as personally. They need an environment that allows them to discover themselves at this critical age for development, and we can accomplish this by creating a community in which all students feel free to be themselves.
My experience with the FCGP Project was very exciting and “flat”. I communicated with people from all over the world which was incredible. Learning about people from different countries and continents is something so interesting to me. Just the other day I met someone from Australia which was so cool because we have the same interests. Global collaboration can teach students about new cultures and people that they normally would not have met. My topic was online learning which was very interesting to me because online learning is a big part of my school. I learned some new and exciting things throughout this process including the benefits of online learning on society and the global community.
I have never experienced something like the FCGP Project before in my life. Besides video chatting with a classroom in Spain, this concept was entirely new to me. As the project progressed and I got more comfortable, I realized how important this project is. Not only does it educate students about new and upcoming topics, it brings people around the world together. The other people in my group were also passionate about my topic and as a student leader I helped guide the group towards success. One thing that could be improved was the communication between members but since everyone lives in different time zones that was inevitable.
I believe the future of school and learning will gear more towards technology. Computers and other devices have so many benefits when it comes to learning. One thing I focused on was that online learning can really bring a community together. If people work together towards a common goal then they will be united. Soon there will be new technology that will open the doors further in learning. Every day a student can learn something new about the world in global communication which is special and unique. Global collaboration should be encouraged and supported. Although there may be language barriers between people, that should not stop us from interacting with people who are different.
In high school, everyone should have the opportunity to interact with other people from around the world and experience different cultures and ideas. As the keynote said, the world can really be our classroom. I believe that walls should be torn down in a classroom so that a student can experience anything. This will not happen overnight, but with determination we can make it into something great.
Throughout working on the FCGP, my learning has been very ‘flat’. It was a very different style of learning, one I had never experienced before. In the past, all of my education has taken place in a classroom, interacting with people just in my school. The FCGP was new and exciting because I got to interact with people around the world. Me and people in the project from around the world got to collaborate and share experiences to learn together.
Although the FCGP has been enjoyable so far, there are still some things that could be improved. A better way of messaging people would be helpful. Instead of messaging people and having it show up on the front page of their blog, there could be a separate messaging page where people interact. The website could also be improved as it was hard to navigate and find blog posts at time. These things could be changed, but overall the project was different and interesting.
In high school, all students should have the chance to interact with people around the world. It is exciting to find someone with similar interests as you that might live on the other side of the country or even the other side of the world. Working with other people from all over also provides a different style of learning. It is good for students to experience a style of learning that is not the typical sit in rows, listen to a teacher lecture.
Having these experiences should be integrated into schools, however slow the process might take. This can be done using things like the FCGP. More of these types of programs should be created and utilized by people throughout the world.
Overall, the FCGP was a very different and enjoyable experience, one that all high school students should get to experience too.
I would describe my FCGP experience as very flat. It helps me reach people and learn with people who I would have not been able to before. It connects me to different places in the world and to different people. It brings together many ideas and many different minds that can work together. It really opens up my eyes to the students from around the world.
It was a really new experience getting to know people from another part of the world. Learning online in this sort of fashion was also interesting as I have learned online in classes before. But, this brought new elements into the mix. I was able to connect and collaborate in ways I could not before. The communication was difficult which is not the way it would be in a regular classroom setting where your partner may be right next to you.
It was difficult to get ideas across in a timely manner as many of the kids I worked with were not in the same time zone as I was. This caused problems as if I would try to speak to one of them it would take a while for them to respond. Also, the sites we would do the project on would take a while to learn or get used to. Those are the only problems I experienced.
All students in high school should be able to experience well-balanced education. This is where every subject that gets taught is taught equally and spent equal amount of time on. In high school, students should be able to experience collaborative projects that builds their team working abilities. They also need to experience being assigned a project with a set due date which will teach them time management. This is because high school is preparing us for college and our first jobs and these are all skills that we will need in these places.
We can make this happen by using resources given to us or that we have access to. This could include FCGP where projects such as this one can be great in building qualities needed later in life. We can implement these resources slowly as some kids may not get used to it right away. But, it should be used early on so that it can become a regular thing in a school's curriculum. Overall, FCGP was a great learning experience that allowed me to reach out and work with people I usually would not be able to.
In the past, I have learned through interacting with people who think in the same manner that I do. This causes less conflict, but it limits the quality and content of the new information that I received.Through new flat learning, I learned to think in a different way from interacting with other students on a global scale. As a result, I along with my classmates received a more diversified learning experience.
I found many parts of this new learning approach very interesting. The entire idea of expanding our own individual knowledge through something as simple as collaboration with students from other schools is a fascinating premise. In addition, to be able to contribute and collaborate on a project at the same time as other students is another thing that I find very interesting.All students that I interact with through this program do not live nearby, so knowing that we are working together on the same things at the same time is very exciting.
Some of the things I found that did not work in the FCGP were the organization of prompts and of the programs we used. Since I had never used Wikispaces, Ning, and many other similar tools before, I found it very challenging to find assignments and see what my collaborators were working on. The structure of the Ning, for example, confused me because it was very difficult to locate where certain assignments were, which made it difficult to have ample time to complete them.
All high school students should be able to have a well balanced learning experience regardless of where they go to school. Each individual student should not only be exposed to one particular way of solving problems, but rather several different ways to increase their aptitude for problem solving. In addition, students will increase their creativity which is something that common high school seem to not emphasize enough.
To make this change, resources like the FCGP should be available in all classes, not just in one. Each class’s resources would have to be modified to each particular subject. Although it may have some challenges,by exposing students to new ways of thinking, their creativity can be increased. Overall, global learning interactions can be extremely beneficial for all students.
Overall, I would describe the entire FCGP as a rather flat experience. FCGp is great in the way that it enables you to reach out and communicate with people all over the world but could be improved greatly in how and when you could communicate with each other. I wish that the FCGP send me alerts or notifications when someone was trying to get in touch with me that way I could see what they said before a week had passed.
The project is brand new to me. In my middle school we would work with the computers and google drive in small groups from our very small classes. The classes would have at most 20 children which is very different compared to the groups containing people from across the country. the kids on the website are kind but interacting with them is difficult. Everyone is in a different time zone and when I go to check my messages they would have said something to me several days before I saw it and the information would be expired.
The technologies that my group and I have researched are still being developed but are growing in popularity and recognition. Once these technologies are further developed they will be very useful to everyone they come in contact with. My subject was robotics and its impact on education. Scientists are still trying to discover how robots can help teachers and students and how to create these robots once they identify a way can help. Once solutions are uncovered to these problems then robotics and truly begin to advance, prosper, and help.
The FCGP is a great introduction for more students to access other student and projects like this one. The FCGP lets us work with people around the world. The project is a good example of students overcoming borders. The project has been interesting to work with and I am curious to see wether or not other schools will incorporate it in their curriculum.
My experience with the FCGP project has been very "flat". I have learned so much about other people from cultures all over the world. Even though I am in a school with a very diverse community, FCGP has broadened that for me and opened up a whole new experience for me, but socially and educationally. I also learned that even from across the world, someone could love and hate the same things as me!
This project has given me the experience of a lifetime. Being able to communicate with students from all over is not only new, but also very exciting. In second grade, my class got pen pals, but we only heard from them once. Then in eighth grade, my class did a collaborative project with another school in my town. We were supposed to stay in contact with these people throughout the whole project, but again only heard from them once. With FCGP, I am able to continue working with these people over the course of multiple months, which was entirely new to me.
Of course, along with all of the amazing things about FCGP, there are some problems and things that don't work very well. First off, since we have started, I've been pretty confused on what my role in all of this is. Most of the time the directions are confusing to me or I'm just not sure what I'm being asked to do. Also, it is pretty hard to communicate with the other people who are working with me, since we are not all in the same time zone. Of course, direct communication is not necessary, but it would be ideal to talk to somebody rather than waiting hours or days for a response.
In high school, all students should be able to experience some kind of global connection with other students. It will give the students to have a much broader education and will benefit them in various ways. Furthermore, giving all high school students a global connection is easier said than done. To have schools participate in this type of learning, schools will need to have the appropriate technology, which may not be afforable to everyone. To make this happen, we can raise money for whoever needs it so they can get the equipment needed for this amazing experience!
