The Global Educator, by Julie Lindsay

How do we build empathy when we meet people in person?

We build empathy when we meet people and immediately look at one another. A person's physical appearance can help the people connect and relate to each other. When we have a conversation, we can gather and learn information about each other to help us connect on more than a physical level.

How do we build empathy when we meet people virtually?

Virtually, we cannot see what a person's actual physical characteristics are so you do not get a real first impression on them. On the internet, people can not be as truthful into what information they include in what their actual feelings are. In conclusion, virtual empathy versus empathy in person in widely different into how special the connections and feelings are.

What do you know and think about the need for empathy?

I know that empathy is the ability to understand the feelings of other people that you encounter on a daily basis. I think the need for empathy is extremely important because if people do not connect on an emotional level, they could be quick to judge them and easily start a disagreement with one another that could lead up to potential conflict.

How important is it to have empathy in order to be able to collaborate with others?

It is very important to have empathy in order to be able to collaborate with others because you achieve a more personal and emotional level with them. Correlating to what i explained in the previous question.

What strategies are YOU using to build empathy in your cross-classroom, global team?

Strategies i'm using to build empathy in my global team to connect with others is to use my interests, hobbies, and what i do on a daily basis to help achieve a personal touch with those i'm interacting with.
