The Global Educator, by Julie Lindsay

What is empathy? Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. We are also able to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and relate to them. Think about how we build empathy.

When you are getting to know them and learning stuff about them, you will find something you have in common or you have had a similar experience to them. Therefore, you can relate and empathize with that person. In online chats or forum discussions, we share our thoughts and opinions on things. Others can read and comment back, sharing their opinions as well. If they agree with you, you can empathize with them since you understand how and why they feel that way. Empathy is very important to build friendships and help relationships grow. Without it you wouldn’t understand someone very well or have very easy conversations with them. It’s very important when collaborating with others, as it makes it easier to interact with others and understand the person better. With mine and everyone else’s introduction blog posts we made, we looked for things we had in common. If we did, we were able to relate to that person.
