One of our tasks this week was to watch Tom Friedman’s video and write what we know about his book "The world is flat."

The Video

I felt that the video was very entertaining, as Tom Friedman knew how to catch his audiences attention. He spoke very enthusiastically and creatively. At times, I wasn't too sure of what he was talking about, but gradually as he used examples, I started to realise what he meant. The video gives… Continue

I've wathced 4 videos on the ning, each one by Mohammed El Issa, Vishnu Ramakrishnan, Tammam Al Ghraoui and Janek Mueller. I must say that all of these videos were very interesting, helpfull as for information to the new students, and they manage to get their messages across. Each video make use of different methods to acchieve their goal. Mohammed El Issa used a love story to get his point about wikispaces and how they can be used to share information, as with the hair growth in his situation.… Continue

The World is Flat Summary

Blog # 2

In “The World is Flat”, Thomas Friedman talks about how he came about writing the book, and describes the different ways in which a variety of influences have hypothetically “flattened” the world. In the first chapter, While I Was Sleeping, Friedman basically introduces the book and talks about his inspirations. The second chapter, The Ten Forces That Flattened the World, Friedman describes ten different factors that he believes have played a major role in the flattening of… Continue

Citizen Journalism

Blog # 4

What is citizen journalism? I was asked to look at citizen journalism, and this is some of the information I found on the topic:

The concept of members of the public “playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information” (according to We Media: How Audiences are Shaping the Future of News and Information).

Public journalism is presently being explored through new media like the usage of… Continue

Citizen Journalism

The concept citizen journalism is based on the theory that normal people without any particular education can be journalists using modern technology. Such way as blog, comment in an online forum, snapping a picture of an recent event and publish it is considered citizen journalism.

Thomas Friedman's Video: Reflection

In Thomas Friedman's video of his lecture given in MIT, he discusses and summarizes the main points of his book "The World is Flat". He skims through what he believes are the "ten flatteners of the world" and he begins by explaining that the world is developing too fast for the economic, governmental, and political sectors to keep up. He talks about what brought him to write this book, which as he says, happened after his several trips to a variety of places around the world. After interviewing… Continue

Chapter 4 of Thomas L. Friedman's Book-Presentation

I have made a powerpoint presentation that basically summarizes in short sentences and pictures about the fourth chapter of Thomas L. Friedman's book "The World is Flat". In this chapter, he discusses the different impacts that the shift from the Industrial era to the IT is affecting the world. He also gives a good example of outsourcing and intellectual law. You can have a look at my presentation at this link:

In this lecture, he basically summarized his book, "The World is Flat", which is the book that the Flat Classroom project is based on. Basically, he starts by introducing how he got the idea of actually writing this book, which basically, as he explained, came up after he took several trips around the world. During those several trips, he interviewed several people about the different issues in our economic world, and… Continue

One of our tasks this week was to watch Tom Friedman’s video and write what we know about his book "The world is flat."

The Video

I found the video incredibly entertaining as Thomas Friedman really knew how to make a creative speech. There were times when I didn't know what he was talking about but I soon realized as throughout his speech he gave lots of examples of what he was saying.
