My name is Tom Stanley and I was a classroom teacher for 41 years and taught at the secondary and collegiate levels in Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado and Nevada. I had the opportunity to help build Clark County School Districts Virtual High School and have worked extensively in the online and blended learning classroom. I developed online classes in every discipline, did professional development, and was an instructional designer at CCSD's VHS. I taught social studies and an online project-based learning class. The professional development I conducted was about teaching online, using technology effectively, and how to integrate project-based learning in the online classroom.
I have also been involved in the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (INACOL), helped organize the Nevada Online Consortium, and have spoken at a number of professional conferences. Last summer I consulted on the Baltimore City STEM project for K-5 students that integrated science, technology, engineering and math in a project based learning curriculum. My specialty is the organization and direction PBL activities and I enjoy connecting local, state, national, and international groups of students for projects such as; the Global Ocean Acidification project, European Union project, Yucca Mountain project, Save Walker Lake project, Dafur Refugee project, and Non-documented Immigration project.
