In each section of our research, we need to focus on citing sources inside the text. In the real world, citations should be integrated smoothly into the writing. There are two ways to do this:

1. Parenthetical citations. A parenthetical citation is when you give credit to the author of a source after the fact in parenthesis. I'll write an example below.

If I read an article by Jon Smith about George Washington, a parenthetical citation may look like this:

George Washington was the first president of the United States (Smith).

2. The other way to do an in text citation is to use signal language. Signal language is when you smoothly indicate in the paragraph that you are using information from another source. An example of this is below.

According to Jon Smith, George Washington was the first President of the United States of America.

Please make sure that all citations use MLA format. Here is a very useful link that details how to properly MLA cite information.

Our research is kind of all over the place. In order to make sure that it looks like a final, professional document, I created a new Google Document.

The Document Titled "FCGP Team 5A- FINAL PUBLICATION" is to be used as our final, professional document. This should NOT have individual naming conventions or bullet points that correspond with citations. This document must use signal language or parenthetical citations for the information. This is how citations are integrated in real, professional documents. If you do not know how to do this, I will post an example, but please ask your teacher for clarification.

The document titled, "FCGP Team 5A- BRAINSTORMING" is to be used for all of our messy research. This document merely needs the information with who submitted the information, and does not necessarily need to be organized super well.

I hope that these separate documents make organizing our research much easier. If you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Here are links to the Google Documents:
